Birth Doula
Cooings is seeking experienced Birth Doulas to support families before, during, and shortly after birth. You will provide non-medical emotional, physical, and informational support that helps clients feel prepared and supported throughout their birth experience.
Assignments are matched based on your location, preferred service area, and availability.
Cooings Doula Care supports families through pregnancy, birth, and the often overlooked postpartum stage with culturally attuned, evidence-based doula care. We offer practical help and emotional support that strengthens family wellbeing and eases the transition into parenthood and back to work.
We connect doulas with families through personalized client matching and provide ongoing support throughout their assignments.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients prenatally to discuss birth preferences, concerns, and support needs.
- Explain labor comfort techniques and ways partners can participate.
- Maintain agreed-upon on-call availability and respond promptly when labor begins.
- Offer continuous labor support, including reassurance, breathing guidance, relaxation techniques, and positioning assistance.
- Help clients communicate their questions and preferences to their healthcare team.
- Support partners and family members throughout the birth experience.
- Provide immediate postpartum reassurance and early bonding and feeding guidance within your scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate service records and communicate relevant updates to the Cooings team.
- Work respectfully alongside healthcare professionals and refer clinical concerns to the appropriate provider.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- A minimum of 16 instructional hours in birth doula care and participation in at least three births as a doula; or
- Five or more years working as a doula, with three professional recommendation letters.
Additional Requirements
- Adult and infant CPR training.
- Professional liability insurance.
- Residence in California and the ability to provide services in your selected service area.
- Availability for prenatal appointments and agreed-upon on-call periods.

Your relevant doula training and professional experience will be reviewed during the application process.
Pay ranges from $100 to $150 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and assignment requirements. The role includes scheduled prenatal appointments and on-call availability for labor and birth, which may occur during nights, weekends, or holidays.
Assignment details and compensation terms will be provided before each assignment.
